Ľubochňa is a spa village with the population of 1055 inhabitants, located in the northwest of Slovakia on the valley of Váh river and on the foothill of Veľká Fatra mountain. Veľká Fatra mountain has the status of National park. In Ľubochňa, the National Institute of Endocrinology (Národný endokrinologický a diabetologický ústav - NEDÚ) for diabetes mellitus, thyroid and hormonal problems treatment with the national importance is located. The natural beauty, clean air and the climate of the village, protected form the wind and dust is very suitable for medical institution and centre. The village has a large park in the centre and the nearby 27 km long valley – the longest in Slovakia, is used for recreation and winter sports. The surrounding forests are abundant in wood.
Actions implemented in the field of building performance:
Ľubochňa municipality and the National Institute of Endocrinology (NEDI) itself are the members of BIOMASA Association. In 2003 the old oil boiler room in NEDI was reconstructed on biomass one and now wood pellets anad briquettes are burning there. Boiler room is heated primary school, kindergarten and the all buildings of the National Institute of Endocrinology.
For the project DISPLAY building of basic school in Lubochna and the municipality office in Lubochna have been chosen.
These two buildings are supplied by the heat from the small DHS (district heating system) in NEDI operated by the BIOMASA Association of legal entities. The heat is generated by using two boilers and the total output of the installed boilers is 2,5 MW. Boilers installed in Lubochna combust mostly wood pellets, occasionally also wood briquettes.
