Odense is the third largest city in Denmark, capital of the green island of Funen and birthplace of HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN. The history of Odense goes back more than a thousand years, but the city is also young, active and modern. Odense is a centre of education and knowledge with more than 35.000 students and the University of Southern Denmark. The importance of the traditional industry is decreasing and great efforts is now beeing done to create new jobs within production technology, IT, communication, biomedical and horticulture where the strong position in the European market will be further strengthend.
Actions implemented in the field of building performance:
The Municipality of Odense has since 1981 worked purposive with examinations and implementations of energy saving projects in all it's buildings.
The process for energy efficiency compromises four major parameters:
1) Meter registration:
Installation of energy meters for heating, electricity and water in every building is fundamental in order to achieve savings.
2) Energy Inspection
During the Energy Inspection the annual consumption of heat, electricity and water is assessed in relation to the budget. An inspection of the building is undertaken in order to make an energy assessment of the climate shield, the installations and the user's behaviour.
3) Information and education
In order to keep focus we compose annual reports containing status for energy saving projects, consumptions and economic. For all buildings on 1.500 sqm or more we compose individual reports containing proposals of profitable actions. And at the same time we educate energy-responsible-people.
4) Implementation
Continuously we implement the energy savings proposals with an economical payback-time less than six years.
