The Kercem Local Council Malta - 1 800 inhabitants
Presentation of the organisation:
The Kercem Local Council was set up in 1984 to administrate the functions of a Local Government. Its main responsibilities include the upkeep of Kercem, roads and pavements, street lighting and permits.
From our office we offer the service of a one-stop-shop, and so the residents are well served in our village in their daily needs.
The Kercem Local Council supports the education system, together with the sports and social local organisations.
We also have the Hamlet of Santa Lucija under our jurisdiction, which hamlet this year was awarded the "European Destinations of Excellence" Award by the European Commmission in respect of initiatives taken to promote tourism and intangible heritage.
Actions implemented in the field of building performance:
Last month the Kercem Local Council appointed a green councillor, and so in every project that we will be implimenting in the future we'll give the maximum importance to energy efficiency measures. We committed ourselves to change the lighting system to that based on energy saver bulbs. The new Civic Centre being built is going to have these sort of lights together with solar panels to provide the necessary energy required for the building.
