Co. Carlow is in the province of Leinster in the south-east of Ireland. The County has a total area of 896 km2 and a population of 46,000.
The main rivers in the county are the Slaney and the River Barrow running along the border with Co. Kilkenny.
Two of Ireland’s third level colleges are based in Carlow - The Institute of Technology Carlow and Carlow College. The national centre for arable crop research, renowned for research in the field of Biotechnology, is based at Teagasc Oak Park Research Station in Carlow.
